Inspired by Ernest Hemingway our senior students tried their hands at writing a story in only six words. Here are the results:

Cinderella and Rockerfella

This year we did a panto called Cinderella & Rockerfella. We had to audition
for what parts we wanted. I was the paparazzo. The show was on the 29th of March in Ballingarry Hall. The hall was full. I was nervous but I enjoyed it.
During the interval there was a raffle and my mother won a hamper. At the end of the show everyone got changed and went home. It was fun.

On the 8th of February we had the auditions for our play Cinderella and Rockerfella. I was nervous about the auditions. I was the last one to sing the first song but it was grand. On the next Monday we got our parts and scripts. I was......Fairy G....that's G for Godmother. I was on in Act 1 Scene 7. It was really fun and I had a great time.

Playing for Tipperary

Last Sunday, the 11th of March, I went into Semple Stadium to play at half time in the Tipperary and Cavan and Tipperary and Galway matches. I had to go to the Dome at half twelve to find out where I had
to sit and get changed. We sat in the V.I.P. area. Ten minutes before the first half was over we had to organise the teams. I played with North Tipp. We played football first. When it was over we had to wait around a hour till we played the hurling. In the hurling we played the South. when the match was over we had to go back to our parents to watch the second half of the Tipperary and Galway game. I had Great fun.

Poetry

DREAMS

When night is here
Past the bright sun beams
Then the hollow night
Fills up with dreams

Babies dream of food and sleep,
Having attention and will to weep
Birds of swooping through the air
And lions of catching a tasty bear

Poets dream of histories past
And cars of being oh so fast
Explorers dream of clues and facts
And farmers of some lush grass

Fish of water
Out at sea
What's your dream
Can you tell me?

And grey has gone

The wolves will howl

And see an owl

Fish swim,

And hug your bear

Pancake Tuesday

On Monday, 20th of February, we made pancake batter at school. We had to sieve the flour and put sugar and eggs in. On Tuesday the parents came in to make the pancakes. Helen Ryan, Kathleen Walton and Carmel Long made them. They were gorgeous.

Narrative Poems

Butterflies

I was ready!
Well I thought I was
I got butterflies in my stomach
And I suddenly got dizzy
I had to sit down
It was drawing closer and closer
Everybody was doing so well
I thought I would mess up
But my Mam told me to go for it
So I did
I was really happy at where I came
The advice really worked!

 Going to my Uncles House
Me and Daddy went to my uncle’s farm
One Saturday morning
At 9 o clock.

He has horses.

We had to clean out stables.

The dumper truck is very dangerous
So I listened to my uncle.
We put the horses’ dirt into the dumper truck

Before the match
I was wallowing in tears
My father came into the room

He asked  

Whats wrong?

And I said
I feel I’m not good enough to start
He said if you try and believe…
I felt better after that.

The Good Advice 
When I was having a problem
Jumping my horse,
I didn’t know what to do,

My dad was watching me

So I rode over to him
And asked him what to do.

He told me to squeeze with my legs

And to hold on to the mane.
And the next time round, I made it!
 
I got off my horse and patted her.
I brought her in for a treat,
I was very proud of her.

It was good advice.

The Night Before Training

One day

It was March

It was the night before training.

I was scared

It was my first night of traning

I was scared of hitting a sliotar

Then mammy gave me some advice

I felt confident

Then I went traning

I had a fun time

I wasn’t scared any more

It was better that way too.

Tidy, Tidy, Tidy

It was a nice Tuesday morning

I had to tidy my room,

But of course I didn’t want to.

So Mammy told me,

Not to put everything under my bed

And to put everything where it belongs.

So I did

And it didn’t take as long as I thought,

It was quicker than stuffing everything under my bed.

So I said

“Thank you Mammy

The advice you gave me really worked”.

Piano Trouble

One night when I was in my room,

I started to play my piano,

I played all my songs...

But one

It was the hardest song I had.

Mammy came in and told me

‘If I stay at the song I would like it.’

I thought it would not work,                                   

But I still tried it,

When I started it I thought I would never like it,

But now it is my favourite song.

Football Match

On January 17th we beat the Commons in a football challenge match. We played in the Ballingarry pitch. It was 7 a side and 20 mins a side. We won by a lot but it was just for fun. It was the first football match our school played in 10 years. Our referee was Philip Ivors. We had a training a session afterwards.

Lambert Puppet Theatre

The Lambert Puppet Theatre came to our school on the 19th of December.The play they were doing was Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The play was very well done. The play was well thought out. Goldilock's hair was blond the bears' fur was brown. At the start there were two finger puppets called Pick and Boo. The younger classes really enjoyed the show .

Sale of work

Last Sunday the 27 of November the Sale of Work was on in the hall in Ballingarry. Our school had a stall  and 4th,5th and 6th class made Santa's and stars. 6th class made logs. The junior class made candle holders. The middle room made Christmas tree decorations. We knitted dishcloths with Sister Miriam. We also had calenders and cards for sale. Most of the things we made sold.

Halloween holidays

On Friday the 28th we got our mid term break. In school we had a fancy dress and game playing day. I dressed up as a vampire. On Monday I went trick or treating with my cousins. We got lots of sweets. On Saturday my cousins came up for a while. We went for a walk. On Sunday my baby cousin came up.On Thursday I went to the cinema and we went shopping.

Camogie

On Saturday the under 12 camogie team had their county final.
We were playing Kildangan and they scored 2 points more than us.
It was the first time the Ballingarry under 12 camogie team were in the county final. We were disappointed to lose.

Maths Week

Last week was Maths Week.  For  Maths Week  4th, 5th and 6th class went outside and did a Maths Trail. Everyone was broken into groups and there were 6 sections to do. Everyone took turns to do each section. We had to find the area of the prefab, find how many footprints were painted onto the ground and lots more. We had lots of fun.

Knitting

Every Wednesday we go to knitting with Sister Miriam. She teaches us how to knit. I am knitting a wristband. I have already finished one and now I am starting another. Other people are making headbands and purses. 6th class are knitting dish cloths which they will sell at the Sale of Work.

Limericks

There once was a young man from Mayo

Who nobody wanted to know

He brought bad luck                                              

And always got stuck

Especially during the snow

There once was a girl from Athy

Who got a bug stuck in her eye

She went to the doc

Who gave her a shock

And then the girl started to cry

There once lived a dog in Tralee

Who got stung by a big bee

He opened his mouth  

And let out a shout

And he was heard in Chile.

She went out to sea

There was a young man from Chad

And a compass was all that he had.

So he travelled East

And then slayed a beast

But after killing it, he felt rather bad.

Sponsored Walk

Many thanks to the parents and students who came out to support the St Joseph's N.S. Sponsored Walk today. A break from the showers ensured a pleasant walk for all. Thanks also to the Civil Defence who ensured that the event went off without a hitch.

My Last School Tour

On the 23rd of June I woke up at quarter past 7 and ate my breakfast. I went down to Londis to get my lunch. I went to school and then I got on to the bus.
I was sitting in the back. We went to Limerick to see Carambola. We got to see where they make the the lunches.
Then we went to Bunratty Castle and Bunratty Folk Park. We went to an old street and an old  school.We went to Craggaunowen. We saw bronze age houses and a Fulacht Fhia ana a Crannóg. When we were going two ponies broke out of the field. My favorite part of the tour was Craggaunowen.
The journey home was long.
    I was tired after the tour.
